Francis Metzger is an architect specialised in heritage restoration of famous places as well as contemporary conceptions. He dominates his passion for architecture through the activities of Ma&sup2; (the architectural workshop that he \u200b founded in 2002), or his academic charges within the Faculty of Architecture of the Free University of Brussels as well as his role as \u200b VicePpresident of the &ldquo;Council of the Order of Architects&rsquo; Association&rdquo; \u200b &ndash; &ldquo;Council of the French and German speaking association in Belgium&rdquo;.</p><p>The second prize shines a spotlight on \u200b young talent, to ensure the future of Brussels expertise. <strong>Laure Kasiers</strong> was awarded the <strong>&quot;Brussels Transmission Prize.&quot;</strong>, for her handmade \u200b and unique, made-to-measure rugs and other textile objects in her Brussels workshop. The \u200b handmade, local creations follow her own alternative process, combining technical know-how with an artistic approach. The two laureates of the BEL Prizes 2024 impressed the BEL committee and its President Pierre Marcolini with their exceptional expertise, creativity, and innovative entrepreneurial approach, adopting sustainable and socially responsible practices.</p><p>Selecting a single candidate for the &#039;Brussels Transmission Prize&#039; was not an easy task. The nominees Bel Albatros, Rish Lab and Tenue de Ville are young companies, each with a vision, strong values, and a very promising future. The city can be proud that they are Brussels based.</p><p>The winners are awarded a sculpture signed by Romain Zacchi symbolizing craftsmanship, and the partner KBC Brussels offers the winner of the &#039;Brussels Transmission Prize&#039; a coaching programme with Girleek, a platform dedicated to acquiring digital skills. Also, \u200b the BEL members, winners and nominees are invited to participate in the BEL&#039;s 2025 programme.</p><p>The BEL Prizes 2024 also celebrates the inauguration of t<strong>he exhibition &#039;When Expertise meets art&#039; at Autoworld Brussels</strong>. This ephemeral exhibition is intended to present the expertise of its members, as well as the convergence of know-how and art. Based in Brussels, he divides his time between his architecture studio MA&sup2; (composed of about twenty collaborators), his role as president of the Order of Architects (French- and German-speaking Council of Belgium), his position as a member of the Royal Commission for Monuments and Sites, and his academic activities at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universit&eacute; Libre de Bruxelles (where he was the first dean).</p><p>Over the years, through his diverse activities, Francis Metzger has developed expertise in projects involving exceptional heritage, whether officially listed or not. For each project, the method focuses on understanding the existing structure, analyzing it, and interpreting it to allow the building to stand the test of time while maintaining functional daily use. Leveraging his expertise in buildings from various eras, MA&sup2; also undertakes contemporary projects. These may involve adding to an existing structure or creating entirely new compositions.</p><p>The work developed by MA&sup2; has been recognized with numerous European and international awards, including the Europa Nostra Award, received four times (most recently for its work on the Royale Belge), and the Special Jury Prize of the European Award for Architectural Heritage Intervention.</p><p>Among his missions focusing on exceptional, often listed heritage, notable projects include the restoration of the Solvay Library, Villa Empain, Delune, Dewin, Autrique, and Saint-Cyr houses, the secure courtrooms and new entrances of the Brussels Palace of Justice, and, more recently, the rehabilitation of the Royale Belge. At the end of this year, the Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria, a luxury hotel, will open its doors in Brussels. The restoration work on the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken is set to begin in the spring.</p><p><strong>Laure Kasiers</strong></p><p>Creative by nature, Laure has always been fascinated by manufacturing and its methods. Studying Textile Design at La Cambre meant she could satisfy her curiosity for handicrafts by combining technical knowledge with an artistic approach.</p><p>From thread to needle</p><p>As time went on, Laure \u200b felt a growing passion for furnishing. Through her research into textiles she was able to build up the soft, warm aspect of carpeting &ndash; she also cherishes the millennia-old tradition behind it.</p><p>Birth and self-discovery</p><p>Laure made her first pieces in 2007, when she was pregnant. These moments of introspection echoed gestation, the process of nesting. In front of the board of examiners at the end of herstudies, she presented pieces produced out of trimmings from a carpet factory. When that closed, she purchased the machines and began to make her \u200b own ribbons, with all the freedom and complexity \u200b that involves. Since then, she has been investing her passion and know-how in quality carpets, designed to clad floors and walls.</p><p>Contingent and organic</p><p>All Laure&rsquo;s pieces are made by hand according to an alternative technique she honed herself. It represents a combination of \u200b mechanical process and a manual, artisanal stage of creation. She transformed the way these ribbons are used &ndash; normally, they are incorporated into the fabric, however she uses them upright, on the edge, and it is this treatment that shapes the design. No weaving, knitting or tufting, the designs arise naturally through her touch. The organic, irregular, singular shapes that result from this seem to come straight out of nature, from the eyepiece of a microscope, from an aerial view of the Earth or from space. This notion of contingency inspires \u200b her creations, in which colours and designs are freely combined, and fires people&rsquo;s imagination.</p><p>Slow design</p><p>From creation to sale, the process runs from A to Z in Laure&rsquo;s \u200b little workshop, nestled in the heart of Brussels.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>",
